Dear Friends,

This year as Bar Ilan University enters its 54th year, I would like to share with you some of the highlights and developments that have taken place on our main campus:

Prof. Gal Kaminka, the head of our robotics department (the largest in Israel) created a robot which is being drafted into the Israeli Army. The robots, being produced in conjunction with Elbit Systems will serve as electronic soldiers patrolling our borders and defending our country.

Research teams headed by Prof. Zvy Dubinsky and Dr. Yulia Pinchasov, of the Mina and Everard Goodman Faculty of Life Sciences have developed a new method which will help measure the level of pollution in water sources and assess living conditions of plants.

On Israel's 60th Independence Day, Prof. Rabbi David Weiss Halivni, Department of Talmud, received the very distinguished Israel Prize for his seven-volume commentary in Talmud.

Prof. Arie Zaban, head of BIU's Nanotechnology Institute, received the Landau Prize for Science Research for his research relating to Solar Energy.

Bar-Ilan remains on the forefront of technology and its researchers are among the highest rated in the region. We look forward to yet another productive and successful year and invite you to visit the ever expanding campus this coming year.
