New Executive Director Appointed

Max Dunbar, BFBIU Executive Director, & Sharon Goldman, Vice President, Bar-Ilan University

Former Chief Executive of Manchester Jewish Museum, Max Dunbar, has been appointed Executive Director of the British Friends of Bar-Ilan University.

Max spent the past 11 years transforming Manchester Jewish Museum, raising £6million to build a major extension and restore the museum’s historic Sephardi synagogue. Having spearheaded the museum’s fundraising efforts, Max will now be responsible for gathering support and raising the profile of Bar-Ilan University in the UK.

He recently visited the Bar-Ilan campus where he met with professors who are leading ground-breaking research into alternative energy, AI, diabetes and Alzheimer’s. In addition, Max visited Bar-Ilan’s Legal Aid and Optometry clinics, which support disadvantaged communities across Israel.

Commenting on his new position, Max said:

“I’m thrilled to be representing Bar-Ilan University here in the UK. On my recent visit, I saw first-hand the remarkable work Bar-Ilan is doing with Israeli communities and in the fields of health, medicine and renewable energy. I’m looking forward to sharing this work with communities across the UK, helping the university make a positive impact in Israel and around the world”.

President of Bar-Ilan University, Professor Arie Zaban, added: “We are delighted to welcome Max into the Bar-Ilan family. The University has a long and special relationship with the UK and I am looking forward to working with Max to strengthen and deepen this relationship further”.
