BFBIU staff and trustees were honoured to attend this year’s Board of Trustees week, which included the annual honorary doctorate ceremony, building dedications and an exclusive meeting with President Herzog.

Attending the week were Chair of BFBIU, Romie Tager KC; trustee, David Gradel; Hon. Vice-President, Sir Bernard Rix; and Executive Director, Max Dunbar.

At the Board of Trustee plenary session, Bar-Ilan’s President, Prof. Arie Zaban, shared his vision and announced six university priorities for the coming year, including The Jonathan Sacks Institute, the SPHERE diabetes programme and the National Energy Research Institute.

A series of dedication ceremonies took place the following day, including the new state-of-the-art Alexander Grass Computer Science Building and the Mordecai Katz z”l Beit Knesset.

In the evening, 1,500 attendees watched Bar-Ilan’s annual honorary doctorate ceremony, where honorary degrees were awarded to the former IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen Aviv Kochavi, Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Yaakov Medan, acclaimed scientist Prof. Joan Steitz, noted artist Sigalit Landau, Atidim Organization which champions opportunities for youth, and  Zehu Ze!, one of Israel’s most beloved comedy troupes.

In addition to these ceremonies, trustees enjoyed a number of trips, including a walking tour of Jaffa, an archaeological dig by the Western Wall and an exclusive meeting with President Isaac Herzog at his Jerusalem home.

A particular highlight of the week was a trip to Shfar’am, where Bar-Ilan’s Faculty of Medicine are supporting Israeli Arab communities through SPHERE, a ground-breaking programme of diabetes care and prevention in the Galilee.

The week concluded with a delicious lunch at the Binyamina winery – and a l’chayim for such a memorable and fascinating week.
