A powerful film from Sheryl Sandberg, ‘Screams Before Silence’ is a must-watch documentary for all, shedding light on the sexual violence committed by Hamas on October 7th.
Following the screening will be a discussion between Bar-Ilan’s Prof. Ruth Halperin-Kaddari, one of Israel’s leading experts on international women’s rights featured in the documentary, and Deborah Joseph, journalist and women’s rights campaigner.

Professor Ruth Halperin-Kaddari is an Israeli legal scholar and international women’s rights advocate. From 2007-2018, Professor Halperin-Kaddari served as Vice Chair at the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women. As a Professor of Law at Bar-Ilan University, she founded The Ruth and Emanuel Rackman Centre for the Advancement of the Status of Women. For over two decades, Prof. Halperin-Kaddari has led this academic centre, promoting legal and social change for women and bringing gender justice to Israel. Since October 7th, Prof. Halperin-Kaddari has focused on seeking justice for the victims of sexual and gender-based violence by Hamas. She is a founding member of The Dinah Project, a group of senior experts in the fields of law and gender who have joined together to lead the fight for the victims of October 7th.
Deborah Joseph is an award-winning journalist and editor. Through her journalism she has worked for over twenty years to highlight injustices and inequalities against women. For the past year, she has campaigned to make deep fake pornography illegal in the U.K. and speaks regularly on careers and women’s work life balance.
